screensaver will not initiate

I have xp prof, 512 ram, FX5200 nvidia card, 2.4 cpu,
None of the screen savers activate including the plus
series. They can be previewed but will not start. Have
checked all the usual stuff, power settings etc., no joy.
Any suggestions?
