I need serious help. A 80Gb backup file on a backup harddisk has actually disappeared because a power failure interrupted a restore.

There is no entry for it in the Master File Table (MFT). And no undelete utility can find a BKF file.

Does anyone have any information on recovering a BKF file without an MFT entry? What is the structure of the file? Can any utility recover the data directly from the drive? Does Microsoft Backup make any backup of its changes to the MFT on the backup media?

I have been working on the problem for nearly a week with no luck.

How can this happen!? 80Gb does not just disappear!

Please help.
