Hi,

It now looks as though this could be a hardware issue.....
I've taken my harddrive out and installed an older
formatted blank 20gig hd. When I boot the XP cd exactly
the same thing happens!! The cd boots but only gets as
far as the blue screen with 'Windows Setup' at the top
but no further; no installation options, no recovery
console, nothing.
I've taken everything out of my system except video card,
keyboard & mouse - no difference.
I've downloaded the facility to start the XP installation
from floppy from the Microsoft XP site, disconnected the
cd drive, booted from floppy but get to exactly the same
point but no further.
I've tried changing the IDE hd cable - no change.

I'm now in a situation where I can't even start from
scratch and reinstall a totally new system :(

Any help or advice would be much appreciated..

P.S. I've also tried restoring the bios to it's default
settings - no change.....
