Additionally, after you have scanned with a recent, full-featured
antivirus using absolutely up-to-date virus definitions, do this:

Set XP's Search to use Advanced features and look in hidden files.
Search for "hosts" - without the quotes. Double-click each file you
find. You'll get the Windows dialog box asking how to open the file.
Choose "pick from a list" and pick Notepad, making sure the checkbox to
always use this program to open this type of file is *not* checked.
Look carefully at each hosts file (including the lmhosts file). You
should *only* have this entry in it:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Be sure to scroll all the way down the file's window to the bottom if
there is a scrollbar. If there are other entries, delete them and Save.
Do this for each hosts and lmhosts file you found.
