| At some point my XP home installation decided that all
| bold text should also be italicized. Display properties
| doesn't seem to support this, and I don't see any other
| options in the Control Panel applets for correcting it.
| (I'd hack the Registry if I could, but don't have a clue

| else see this?
Sounds like you are missing some standard fonts that are installed on
every Windows XP computer. According to the following Microsoft
Knowledge Base article you can run setup again to replace them.
KB314960 - HOW TO: Install or Remove a Font in Windows
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?Product=winxp&scid=kb;en-us;314960
Else, you could compare the list of fonts in KB314960 and find the
ones that are missing from your Fonts Folder. Then expand the missing
fonts from your installation CD-ROM into a temp folder. For general
guidelines see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
KB304999 - How to Replace Missing System and TrueType Fonts
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=304999
And then install them by opening C:\WINDOWS\Fonts and using the
"Install New Font" command. For more information search the Help and
Support Center for the phrase: "To add a new font to your computer"
Tip: If you choose the Details icon shown on the toolbar when
exploring the C:\Windows\Fonts folder you will be able to see the
actual filename of the fonts.
Note: As follows is the list of fonts from KB314960 with the
corresponding filename. Note: The files on the installation CD are
compressed and thus will be named with a trailing underscore. For
example, cour.tt_ instead of cour.ttf.
Courier New (including Bold, Italic, and Bold Italic variations) =
cour.ttf, courbd.ttf, couri.ttf, courbi.ttf
Arial (TrueType, including Bold, Italic, and Bold Italic variations) =
arial.ttf, arialbd.ttf, ariali.ttf, arialbi.ttf
Times New Roman (TrueType, including Bold, Italic, and Bold Italic
variations) = times.ttf, timesbd.ttf, timesi.ttf, timesbi.ttf
Symbol (TrueType) = symbol.ttf
Wingdings (TrueType) = wingding.ttf
MS Serif = serife.fon
MS Sans Serif = sserife.fon
