Re: Cannot start web publishing service; can't do any web development therefore!

Thanks for your help. I seem to have resolved the problem. For whatever it is worth, here is what I did:

1. Uninstalled -all- my windows components by removing the check marks on them, including IIS, and restarted the machine.
2. Reinstalled the ones that were originally checked, and included IIS (avoided SMTP, FTP though, since I don't need it)
3. I also disabled McAfee from blocking the IIS application from communicating with the internet, started WW publishing, and then again enabled McAfee to block it.

I was able to connect to my localhost and view the default IIS page - which I take as a sign that my web server is working fine. I still am not able to use Visual Studio to create a web project, and am wondering if I need to reinstall Visual Studio - I would rather not, since unlike the above that takes a few minutes, this would take an hour easily!
