Hi I have a huge comp problem! Please help someone. Tonight
out of nowhere, regedit pops up and tells me it is deleting
a folder of entries, but doesn't ask me to confirm. It
deleted something along the lines of HKEY Local
Machine/CLSID or something like that. I wondered why. I
started noticing that over the course of a half an hour, my
system was deteriorating. "My Computer"'s text changed to
"Folder", other folders lost the text that was beneath
them. Some programs would run, others wouldn't. I could not
access the recycle bin to cancel the deletion of these
entries in time when my computer froze. When I finally
rebooted, my comp has only minimal functionality. My
desktop image is viewable, but my desktop icons and start
bar are not. I can't locate my control panel. If I press
CTRL+ALT+DEL it brings up task manager, from which I can
run only certain programs. I can't even run windows
explorer for some reason which might help me. I try too
look for the recyle bin for backup copies of the registry
entries, but I cannot find my recyle bin from the task
manager. I have valid system restore points from only a day
or two ago, which I'd love to restore my computer from, but
I can't. In C:\Windows\System32\restore there is a program
that might be system restore, but I am not sure. This
program will not run for some reason (probably due to those
registry entries being gone) so I cannot restore my
computer. I am using XP btw. I can't seem to locate my XP
disk either which makes it even more frustrating. What can
I do?
