System: XP Home edition
I worked on a PC for a friend who had IE hijacked. Unfortunately I must
have screwed up something in the registry big-time trying to get rid of the
hijack.
Problem: System boots fine and most programs seem to work OK. However
cannot load Internet Explorer, Contrl Panel, My computer or My documents and
cannot RightClick Start to Explore files. Whenever I do this a popup
appears telling me a resource library is missing and suggests I to try to
reload FREEDOM. I never heard of FREEDOM - and I cannot find a reference on
the internet.
If I go to START - RUN and BROWSE I can see all of the files on the system
OK.
I can load AOL and browse the internet, but I cannot open IE-6.
I tried to do a SYSTEM RESTORE and after rebooting and trying to restore I
get a message indicating thr restore could not be completed. This is after
trying three different restore points going back a month.
HELP - I know I should have backed up the registry but I didn't :(
