I got tricked by spyware, and now having problems with my computer. They got me by claiming to be microsoft and asking if I wanted to stop pop up adds and spam, so naturally I said yes. I figured out it wasn't legit when a "hotbars" tool bar installed. I ran a spy sweep program, and went back to a restore point.
But now my uninstall program won't work, and everytime I open outlook an error message comes up.........."The add in C:\progra 1\Hotbar\bin\446 1.01\SBOLExt.dll could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using detect and repair on Help. May be out of memory, out of system resources, or missing a .dll file"
Can some one please tell me how to get my computer back to normal, I would surely appreciate the help.
Also, I use Zonelabs free antivirus program, telus antivirus program and firewall, and I think I have everything running with Windows XP, so why wasn't I alerted that this was spyware? And should I otherwise be protected with all this running?
Thanks
This spyware was installed through internet explorer so your firewall figured that you wanted it so it wasn't stoped, and anti-virus software is for viruses not spyware,(despite what they may market).
Go to www.spywareinfo.com click on the software link then "view all catagorys" download Ad-aware, spybot S&D,
cool web shedder ( CWS) and a must have is "spywareblaster" install them all, one at a time update them and let each one scan your system once your system is clean spywareblaster will help to prevent this in the future. Also there are other downloads there if you are interested in them.
Good luck.
