If it's only on the one system, try setting up a profile in outook for that
user on another system and see if it does the same thing. Are the contacts
kept on the server or in a .pst file? Either way, I'm guessing file
corruption.
If the contacts are kept on the server, export them to a pst, delete them
from the server, run scanpst on the pst file and re-import them. If they
are kept in a .pst file, just run scanpst on the file.
scanpst can be found in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
