Free products are available that will do just as good a job (and without
some of the problems that have become identified with Norton and McAfee
products). You need an AV - AVG 6 free from www.grisoft.com ; or you
can currently get a free one year trial of the admirable eTrust from
http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft/ (then a $9.95 subscription for
updates). Firewall, Zone Alarm or Sygate both have free versions that
work well (and for insulation against incoming probes, which is what
really matter, the inbuilt XP one is perfectly adequate). Then AdAware
anti-spyware from www.lavasoftusa.com, and perhaps a free pop-up stopper
from http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree_download.html
