>From what you describe, it sounds to me like the BIOS is
set to go to the CD-ROM drive as the first boot device.
Most systems (in my experience) would proceed to the next
device (hard drive, etc) if a bootable CD was not found in
the CD-ROM drive. Yours may not do that (it may get
stuck). Or perhaps the CD-ROM drive is set as the ONLY
boot device, that's not as likely. Perhaps what happened
was that during the Windows install the BIOS was set to
boot from the CD-ROM drive and that after Windows was
installed, the setting was never changed back to the
default. The default boot sequence on most systems (in my
experience) is floppy first, hard drive second, CD-ROM
third.

To get into the BIOS, at system powerup (or re-start),
press the DELete key a few times, although some BIOSs
respond to the F2 key (or others): look for an on-screen
cue. After you get in, look for the BOOT menu and see
what the order of devices is set to, modify if necessary.
There should be on-screen instructions for modifying the
values: + and -, PgUp and PgDn, etc. If you change
something, you'll have to save the changes when you exit
the BIOS setup. If you're uncertain about ANYTHING,
simply exit without saving the changes. Be careful in the
BIOS or it will bite you !

Good Luck !
