I've had the same problem with my dual Opteron system since I put it
together (2 weeks ago). It happens randomly when I try to print and when I
start LapLink 11.5. From a message to another group:

I just bought/built a dual AMD Opteron workstation (specifics below). The
system is running fine for the most part. One nagging, recurring problem,
though, is a lockup when attempting to print. It happens randomly --
sometimes several times in a row, sometimes not in a couple days. It always
happens just after the "OK" button in the printer tab is pressed and the
printer dialogue disappears -- probably as soon as the job starts out to the
spooler. [Note: I subsequently tried disabling Spooling in each printer;
problem persists.]

It happens randomly on any of 3 printers:

    Panasonic KX-P7105 Laser -- Panasonic driver v5.00.64
HP DeskJet 895Cse -- XP driver
Acrobat Distiller v4.0; print to named file

The 2 hardware printers are connected via their parallel ports to a Linksys
EPSX3 Ethernet print server. Both were installed only with drivers (no
accessory software pkg). The other computer on the network -- an HP laptop
running XP Home -- has no problems with it (and neither did my previous
workstation running Win 2K Pro).

This has happened in Word, Acrobat, Photoshop, Excel, Outlook Express, and
other apps. Complexity of job does not seem to be an issue -- "heavy" jobs
often run; simple text jobs sometimes fail.

Symptoms are always identical: Mouse (Kensington Expert Mouse trackball
running v6.03 driver) cursor freezes on screen (Samsung 193P LCD), machine
locks up and allows no keyboard or mouse input. Only way out is the reset
button or power switch. The same print job is usually successful next
attempt, but today I had one relatively simple MSWord job (attached, FWIW)
take 3 resets.

Since the problem is not isolated to any specific hardware or application, I
don't know how much more detail I need to get into for troubleshooting. Are
you aware of any general printing or networking issues with XP Pro, or other
conflicts I might explore?
