Rusty,
The "mid -year 2004" is a time frame as mid year is not usually considerer
to be a precise date.
So yes that is all there is to say about the release date.
There are not "problems" with the SP2 dev that are precluding a published
specific date -. You need to understand that on a 200MB+ service pack that
is touching hundreds of files and adding new functionality - we are dealing
with a huge and complex software development project, that is touching
millions of lines of code in dozens of interconnected components and
systems.
Until we and those involved in testing are happy to sign off on the build
then we will be able to release it to manufacture.
Yes we have a schedule to work to, but the end date is flexible and movable
when your target is a quality driven release. and not a fixed end date so
must ship it whatever state it is in.
So Mid 2004 is Summer 2004 (in the northern hemisphere at least - hence our
use of a date and not season based statement)
You do not need to wait to slipstream.
A Windows XP SP1 plus hotfixes that has SP2 applied to it is the same result
as a bare Windows XP system patched to SP2 or a clean install with a slip
streamed SP2, as regards the operating system components. If you wish to
clean install then it is not for any reason related to the resultant
operating system install.
