I got this from Gateway and it worked like a charm for me:

Repair Installation (Windows XP Already Installed)
Part number 7509594,7512164,7512581,7513002,7513437,7513439,7513624
Note: Steps 3 and 4 of these instructions reference the folder where Windows
is located after a reinstallation - C:\Windows. If Windows has not been
reinstalled, these steps need to be performed from the C:\WINNT folder
instead. This is the folder Windows resides in after the original factory
load.
>From the Start menu, click Run.
In the Run dialog box, in the Open text box, type: cmd. Click OK.
Delete the undo_guimode.txt file. In the C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe dialog
box, type: del /a /f c:\windows\system32\undo_guimode.txt. Press the ENTER
key.
Note: If a "Could not find C:\Windows\System32\Undo_guimode.txt" message
appears, then the file was not created. Proceed to step 4.
In the C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe dialog box, type: exit. Press ENTER.
Note: For additional information about why the preceding steps are
necessary, refer to Microsoft TechNet article Q312369.
