When ME was reinstalled, it most likely deleted the XP boot files,
like boot.ini. My guess is that the installer, simply copied an image
of a fresh install onto your HD, thus wiping anything that was there
before.

You have two options (that I can think of):

1. Reinstall XP from scratch, thus reinstalling the boot files.
2. Use your recovery disc to attempt to repair your installation
or start the install process and select repair instead of install.

ALthough I have experience installing multi boot systems, I have
never encountered a situation as yours. Once I had a multiboot
with Windows 98SE and Windows 2000 and I had some problems
with WIn 2K (my fault!) and just decided to reinstall everything.

Good luck!
