Hello,

I beg your indulgence for my long explaination. It's long but I didn't
want to not give enough info...

I have an 80 gig HD (75 usable) HD and had the following partitions...

3 Primary Partitions:
c: 15g (NTFS Win XP)
d: 10g (NTFS Empty)
e: 10g (NTFS Empty)
1 Extended Partition w/1 logical Drives:
f: 10g (NTFS Data)
and 30 gigs of unallocated space inside the extended partition.

Then I created three more partitions using the win XP Disk Management
program...

I would create another logical drive (G) and it would give me an error
message when I chose to either format the newly created partition or
leave it raw.

Device Installer Error
Windows could not load the installer for volume. Contact your hardware
vendor for assistence.

Disk Manager would then lockup. I checked the Event log and found the
following error:

Faulting application mmc.exe version 5.1.2600.0 faulting module
dmdskmgr.dll version 2600.0.503.0 fault address 0x00020781

I had to go into Task Mangager to kill Disk Manager. I reboot and get
that Device Error Message on boot. I then go back into Disk Manager...it
let's me do more work. I see that drive G is defined. So I created
another logical Disk (H). Like before, Disk Manager locks up after I
tell it to either format the partition or to leave it raw. Then I kill
Disk Manager with Task Manager and reboot. (I get two occurances of the
Device Installer Error) Once for each logical disks (other than the
original 3 primary and 1 Extended partitions.) I re-enter Disk Manager
and created one more drive and I get three 3 Device Installer messages
when I reboot.

Then I rebooted and went into Recovery Console and deleted all the newly
created logical drives (G,H,I) and then ran fixmbr and rebooted. (No
errors.)

And then I went back into Recover Console and created my 3 logical
drives there thinking it might work. I boot and get the Errors again.

So now I can go into Disk Manager without errors and actually see the
drives (I've since installed Linux in these drives) but I still get the
error messages at boot.

The system works fine. I've since installed Linux and it works too but I
still get those Device Error Messages (3) at boot. Can I somehow get rid
of these messages at boot?

Thank you very much for your time.

Jon
