Hello, all.
My workstation runs Win2K. I wrote a DOS program that beeps the PC speaker
by sending a BEL character (7) to the console. When I first open a DOS
prompt and run the program, the speaker beeps. But if I run any programs
that set the video mode--such as the DOS edit program, debug or an old
game--the speaker no longer beeps. It doesn't matter if I beep the speaker
with Int 21h function 2 or with Int 10h function 0Eh, the fact is that
running most any old executable will kill sound from the speaker. To get the
speaker sound back I have to open another DOS box.
I just checked a system running XP, and it's got the same problem.
Any way to get the beep back?
