It probably WILL show up in safe mode.
You don't have to do a clean install and deal with all those troubles you
can do a repair install which keeps your settings and installed programs
intact.
But before doing this have you tried using Windows Restore to go back to a
point befoe the problem started? You can do this in safe mode.
