Modems can be a real pain - not just in XP but in Win 98. Especially when the motherboard wants to capture a COM port and the modem is trying to install in the same one. I know you said you got updated drivers and that may be the case but when I went from Win 98 to XP some of the old drivers didn't work right. Just a thought, have your tried using the XP generic 56K modem driver just to get it working -- then look for an upgrade if you need it. Good luck!
