To anyone out there who genuinely can offer some advice on
my problem. Please read the initial post down below and I
have include my only response to date.It is now the second
week and this is all the replies I have received. The only
other information I can add is that prior to this problem
manifesting itself I had problems with the remote deskttop
connection and there may have been files that were deleted
in my effort to get it working. But remember I have
reloaded XP pro (twice)

Thanks for your reply.
However the problem occurred before I was forced into
looking for answers and the only update driver from MS was
the ESS modem driver. In all that I descibed earlier and
before I put in a different modem Ifirst got rid of the
other modem drivers.
I have since put in a new modem to no effect.I have a
suspiscion it may have something to do with RCP that I was
looking at prior to my modem meltdown.
Sorry Bubba, I am still alive(just) but haven't learnt
anything yet to solve this problem.
Someone Help!!!
