shutdown

I've endured a problem shuttting down for nearly a month
now... It wont shutdown! Both, a shut down and restart
will result in the same: It will freeze at ''Windows is
shutting down''. In order to turn off the comp, i can
only power it off at the plug. I don't know if this is
relevant but i've attempted to restore and, though i list
checkpoints, i am told that after performing the restore,
it is unable to actually restore it...
