xp crashes

Began using XP home edition 2 years ago. No crash during
the first year. Then crashing began once a month and
became more frequent until a few weeks ago; now the
crashes occur daily. Same software applications used
throughout the 2 years.
What causes this? Can it be fixed? I might as well be
using Windows 95.
Does Microsoft know about this?
