The FREE Standard Version of the Zone Alarm firewall has served me well,
along with the FREE Standard Version of Ad-Aware, and the FREE Version of
AVG Antivirus. All will work well, but vigilantly checking for upgrades of
the definitions for your antivirus program and Ad-Aware is very important.
It's also very important to protect your email address. If you know people
who don't use BCC when emailing to multiple recipients, and open attachments
without thought that they might contain viruses/worms, get a FREE Hotmail
account, and give that email address to people who don't follow safe email
practices, and who don't use a firewall, or when you're required to supply
an email address at a web site, or when registering software.
