Many viruses will break installed antivirus programs and stop you from
accessing online virus scanners. You can try scanning with Stinger, a
standalone virus checker that can clean about 39 common viruses. Take
the infected machine off the Internet and any lans immediately. From a
different, unrelated machine (and that means one not on any network
where the infected machine formerly was, too) get Stinger from here:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
Burn it to a cd-r and then copy it to your infected machine. Run Stinger
in Safe Mode. If your infected machine was on a lan, disconnect all
other networked machines and run Stinger on them, too. If you are
lucky, Stinger will let you clean up the machine(s) enough to
reinstall/install a full-featured antivirus like NAV. Update your av
definitions on that program and scan again in Safe Mode. Do this on
every machine. When you are sure that all machines are clean, you can
reconnect your network.
Good luck,
Malke
