Hi! I am really worried about my new computer (with
Windows XP Home Edition) right now. I turned it on this
morning and used it until the evening without any
problems, but then the computer suddenly powered down by
itself like it was in Standby mode (there's nothing on the
screen, and the usual noise is gone, but the power light
indicator thing is still on). When I tried restarting the
computer, it stayed on for around five minutes and it did
it again. I tried it for at least five times now and it's
still doing it. I am suspecting a virus (although I have a
firewall, Norton Antivirus, and all the latest Windows
Updates installed), but I can't even complete a full scan
without it "standing by". Now when I turn it on, it
says "No operating system found.". It's really scaring
me. Is it infected with a virus, or is it the hardware?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
