It sounds like your computer has a "bios locked" OEM version of
Windows XP which does not require activation.

If it did require activation and was not activated then you would be
getting a nagging popup several times a day reminding you that you
have only x days left in which to do the activation.

Try the check suggested by Richard Urban. If that does confirm that
your XP has *not* been activated then post a response back here as
there is a way of fixing that.
