I have a Satellite 1135. My fain is mostly quiet (not running, I guess)
but for every 10-15 minutes it will do something. I don't notice it.

I suggest in the user guide to your computer and read about the cooling
fans and the operation thereof, especially the switching of "cooling
method". I do wonder if it is documented, though. Frankly, I never
heard of such a thing about different cooling methods in all the laptops
I've used over the years (more than a dozen since 1987). But then,
maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.

I think it "not normal" for the fan to be running all the time. I think
you should ask Toshiba if it normal for these fans to be on all the
time. Ask quickly before your warranty runs out.

I agree and understand the importance of a quiet work environment. I
think that the laptop should not normally contribute unnecessary noise.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

At first I thought the solution to my problem lay there, since there is a 'Silent mode'. But no; selecting that -I mean the silent- mode (which I have no documentation to judge whether it is prudent to use or not) makes no difference. The cooling fan goes off temporarily even when I shift from silent mode' to 'Maximum performance'.
