You can use a "Cross Over" Patch cable which plugs into RJ45 lan/ethernet, not the telephone jack
in the back (on laptop, a PCMCIA card for 10/100 such as D-Link etc.). Network wiz sets it up for you
as home network where you see shared files on other computer so can copy them. Saves you from
buying a router when you don't wish home network, rather just want to transfer files from a box when
it has no CD write capability. I went from an old 266MHZ desktop Win 98 to this MCE. Failing this
method I could have taken the old PC to Future Shop to do it for me but it would have cost more than
Cross Over.

I would like to transfer old files from my laptop (win
98se) to my desktop (xp). I followed the instuctions for
the xfer wizard using a parallel cable but the devices
could not connect. I have been told to try a serial
cable. any suggestions, please. Thank you, Mike
