Jen-
One easy way is to use WinZip. Take the document(s) and put them into a
.zip file which can be password protected. Keep in mind that this isn't
foolproof because there are plenty of programs available to crack WinZip
passwords. If you really want to protect a file or folder, you should
consider using third-party encryption. Many of the freeware encryption
utilities will allow you to create a self-extracting .exe file that will
prompt you for a password to get at the data.
However, if you need to use the data frequently, you may want to look into
DriveCrypt. This will allow you to create a folder to store all of your
stuff in. The encryption is on the fly (and in the background out of site).
You just have to enter a password once to open up the virtual drive. When
you are done messing with your files/folders, you just dismount your virtual
drive and it is inaccessible to anybody without the password. See
