An upgrade install is easy and takes little time and probably makes it
look to your customers like you know what you're doing because the job
is done so quickly. After all what would they think if you sat for 7
hours as you cleanly installed, updated all the drivers, and
reinstalled all the software. They'd probably think you were nuts or
incompetent. So I can understand why you'd upgrade OTHER people's
machines. But come on, you wouldn't do that to your own box would you?
When first installed, sure the upgrade seems to run fine. However over
the long haul as you continue to upgrade drivers and add and remove
software, an upgrade install is more likely to slow down and you are
more likely to run into trouble.
Could an average office worker's machine be upgrade installed, sure.
What do the drones in cubicles know. Most can't find where Outlook has
saved that file attachment they just received.
But you must know that no serious user or gamer would consider an
upgrade install of XP to be the optimal path to take. If you don't
know the pitfalls then you've been living in ... well... some remote
place... like Canada.
