Phil,
I installed ONLY Excel from my old MS Office Professional & Bookshelf CD onto my newer PC w/ XP Home.
Now when I double click on an Excel file I get an error message on the Excel desktop that says:
"(name of file).xls is not valid"
Should I have installed the entire Office disc?
Do I need to download some additional updates etc? I went to officeupdate.com but wasn't sure what to do there . . .
I really want to be able to create and edit excel files as well as view and print them.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Office 97 programs work fine on xp. Just put cd in and install. Then update
and patch from officeupdate.com
