Well, don't panic because it doesn't do any good. Really loud screaming
helps, though. First, do the normal Windows troubleshooting; i.e., scan
for viruses with current av and remove spyware with Spybot S&D and
Ad-aware. Empty the temporary files and Temporary Internet Files
folders. When you're sure the computer is clean, try to connect again.
If the connection still isn't working, examine the networking setup
carefully. Check that XP's built-in firewall isn't on (right-click your
network connection and choose Properties, Advanced). Make sure no
firewalls are on. If you still need help, repost. How many computers
are involved? How large a network? Domain? Workgroup? Be sure to
include details because I can't see your computer from here. Oh, and
don't panic. Just hold onto your towel. Fixing this is doable, it just
takes a little Sherlocking.
