Stop Errors: http://kadaitcha.cx/stop_err.html#8e
Specific to 8E:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/ddtools/hh/ddtools/bccodes_59k7.asp
Specific to 0xC...05:
0xC0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION A memory access violation occurred
WinXP is much more physically demanding of RAM than is Win9x, and the
error might be a failing RAM module, for which memtest (google it) is
the diagnostic of choice.
WinXP is much more physically demanding of HD also. To check HD run
from a command prompt, type:chkdsk[space]>c:\chkdsk.txt[enter].
Checkdisk will run and log its results to c:\chkdsk.txt, which can be
opened with notepad. I would also run from a command prompt, type:
sfc[space]/scannow[enter]. System file checker will replace any damaged
or missing system files.
Any event viewer repeating warnings or failures should be taken
seriously. Many warnings are simply notices that a services or device
did not start, but others can point to continuing problems, particularly
disk write or write-back errors. Any Device Manager yellow or red
device problems should be taken seriously and corrected.
Stop errors are often caused indirectly by inappropriate drivers and
other seemingly unrelated problems so diagnosis can be difficult.
