xp - upgrade - entry point not found

I was a dumbass and clicked on an executable file which turned out to be a
very bad virus ( I can provide a copy to anyone interested)
I have run the latest norton antivirus, spybot and adware 6 prgms until
they all say system is clean
however I was still getting daily internet unauthorized attempted connects,
redirects and defacement of IE

my solution was to reinstall xp using the upgrade option

it runs ok to the 13 mins left mark (registering componets) where I get the
message "entry point GetIUM not found in MSDART.DLL"
the message window is labeled unregmp2.exe
there does not seem to be anyway to get past this point. I have rebooted
several times with the same result

I do have access to the HD through a 2nd copy of xp. is there anyway to
solve this problem and access my orginal copy of xp.
