This will work *only* if the drive is not NTFS.

Assuming that noodle wants to reinstall Windows XP after
formatting, what you suggest is not necessary. All he needs to do
is just boot from the Windows XP CD and follow the prompts for a
clean installation. It will do the reformat for him.
