message windows

Hello,
On a windows xp machine when you are in the internet keeps appearing. This
range from annoying messeges to sexual messeges. These messeges are in the
form of a standard Winxp window with just the X button enabled. I have
stopped this on another machine however i can not remember how i did it. The
machine is winxp home and has norton anti virus installed.

Any help would be appreciated.
