Download and SAVE critical updates?

Is there a way to download but not install a critical update? I'd like to
create my own update CD to use when and if I clean install in the future.
The MS update CD only goes to Oct '03 so it is barely a help. I do this with
all downloaded programs I install and it saves a lot of time. There are too
many updates to want to do it all again.
