I recently performed a "clean install" of Windows XP Home Edition
on the following hardware. The owner of the computer was absolutely
delighted and has commented how much faster XP Home is compared
to the previous Windows 98 installation. He felt like he just got
a new computer! Total cost: $99 for Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade.
Drive was formatted NTFS using error-checking.

1997 Model Gateway Tower PC
333MHz PII CPU
384 MB RAM
6 GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
8 MB PCI Video Card

| The other posts give you the answers but I think you need a reality check. Why go out and spend your money
on a new XP OS only to have it run at a fraction of it's potential? This is like having a VW Bug and asking
"if I buy a jaguar V12 engine can I put it in my VW?". With modification you can but why would you. Wasting
your money on a top of the line OS and putting it in a bottom of the line computer is counter productive. You
will be constantly posting back here to ask why drivers don't work and why apps don't work and why is the
performance so slow and so on. Stick with an older OS on an older machine and save your money until you can
get a new system that can do XP justice. Good luck
