USB 1.1 to 2.0 Problem

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough in my last posting -so here goes again.......

I am using Windows XP with SP-1 installed.

I have three Maxtor hard drives - all of which are rated as USB 2.0. I have
a notebook with a USB 1.1 port. However, the notebook is connected to a
docking/expansion station which has two PCI slots. In one of the slots is a
Matrox G450 graphics accelerator. In the other slot is a Belkin PCI card
which is supposed to convert USB 1.1 to USB 2.0. This card has four
external USB 2.0 ports and one internal port. I have connected the four
external ports to each of four Belkin USB 2.0 powered expansion devices.

When I first connected the Belkin PCI card and the Belkin powered expansion
devices (and this was prior to adding the Matrox graphics accelerator), my
backups to the Maxtor drives were many times faster than with the built-in
USB 1.1 port. This was as it should be. That was several months ago.
Later, I added the Matrox card (which I wouldn't expect to cause a problem
with the Belkin card). This past weekend, I performed a complete backup of
my system from scratch - and it took so long that it appears the transfer
speed has reverted back to USB 1.1. In Device Manager, there are no
problems showing under USB - or anywhere else for that matter.

Obviously, there is something that has dramatically slowed down my transfer
speed and I need to find the problem and fix it.

I called Belkin Tech Support and received no constructive help. I suspect
the PCI card - but can't prove it.

Does anyone have any idea on how to go about getting my USB 2.0 speed back?
My backups with the USB 2.0 PCI card used to take two to three hours. Now,
they are taking nearly twenty-four hours. This is unacceptable.

Could the card be the problem? Could there be a software conflict? Could
the graphics card cause a problem? By the way, I even switched slots for
the two PCI cards -with no change in results. Can anyone help?
Thanks............
