In addition to Kelly's excellent advice, check your settings in Control
Panel. My son's computer has onboard sound and in order to use his
headset to talk to friends during games, he has to do 2 things: 1) His
headset has 2 connectors - one for the mike and one for the speakers.
Because his "sound card" has only the 3 connectors, he has to take out
the speakers connector and put in the one for his headset. 2) And this
is the part that might really apply to you more - he has to go into his
speaker configuration applet and *change* the setup from speakers to
headset. He does this in the Multimedia applet in Control Panel. His
computer runs Win98, so yours might be slightly different (and the XP
box isn't on right now so I can't check), but you *do* have a place to
configure your speakers from a Control Panel applet.
