transfer wizard problem

I am trying to use transfer wizard to transfer files from
a computer with windows 98 to a new one with windows xp.
What cable do you use? In the directions it says use a 9
pin serial cable. I bought one and connected them, the
two computers do not see each another. I follow all the
directions. help!
