I have done an internet search to see how many others are having a similiar problem. It would seem that the vast majority that have this problem have it because of an extra toolbar installed by a third party such as the useless AOL searchbar. Get an adware\spyware cleaner like Spybot Search and Destroy and remove any 3rd party BHO's. IE also has a default setting that will make it check a remote computer for any scheduled tasks before loading a page. This can take time. It can be removed in the registry. go>start\run and type in regedit and hit ok. Now follow this route by clicking the + beside the entries in the following order. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/RemoteComputer/Namespace and then under there right click on D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF and then choose delete. Close your way out. You can also speed IE6 up by increasing the number of simulataneous pages it will load. By default this is set to 2. HKEY_USER/Default/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVers
ion/InternetSetttings Now click internet settings to highlight it and open up the sub keys in the right panel. Find MaxConnectionsPerServer and MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server and right click on them and modify them to any multiple of 2. I have mine set to hexadecimal=10 which give me a decimal value of 16. If the keys don't exist then you right click in a blank area and then choose new\DWord and then type in MaxConnectionsPerServer and then click in a blank area again to set it and then right click on MaxConnectionsPerServer and click modify and type in the number 10 if the dot is in hexadecimal or 16 if the dot is in decimal. Do the same for MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server . I found 16 to be the optimal setting for my DSL connection but you may want to try different settings for yourself. Many experts claim 8 is the optimal. That is a good starting point but I found 16-20 to work better. Good luck.
