Do you have ethernet cards in these computers? If so, you can do this with a
crossover cable.

USB won't do it for you unless you're using a USB/Ethernet adapter (and I
wouldn't bother - regular old Ethernet cards are cheap, and simpler).

If you don't have a large amount of files/large files to transfer, you might
want to look into something like a USB flash memory doohicky - they're cheap
enough these days and available in pretty decent sizes (512MB enough?)
