1st, the disk(s) that came with your new computer, or the stand alone
version of XP you bought, should be bootable. You can also just
re-install Windows and you'll get the original settings, and not lose
any programs you've accumulated since you got your computer.
**But do not re-format your hard drive - you'll lose everything and
have to start over.

2nd, if you are worried about getting older setting back, Windows XP
saves old settings, and you can restore your computer back to last
saved point, or any of the several restore points you have in "system
restore" (XP usually saves a restore point whenever you install
something new). Also you can just tell "system restore" to save a
point whenever you want to.

3rd, you can buy a program like "Ghost" (by symantec) that will save
everything on your hard drive and make the disk(s) bootable too.
(It's called "imaging" software). It will save to CD, DVD, or I think
another hard drive or another partition of your one hard drive.

4th - I just saw one of the replies that pointed to a way to make a
bootable disk with XP. I didn't take a look at it yet.
