Hello Walter,
Try running MSConfig.exe and looking at the items under the start-up tab.
There could be a program trying to start that you can disable here to see
if that solves your issue,
Thanks,

| My friend has a Windows XP Home desktop and I cleaned off some adware junk
| as well as did a system restore back to a point a few months back.
| Everything seems to work ok but I have two issues I'd still like to
resolve
| for him:
|
| 1) Startup to any user account takes a little over a minute. When new out
| of the box, the Dell system loaded to a usable desktop in about 40-45
| seconds. I don't know what is causing it to load so much slower. Is
there
| anything I can look at to help cut down on the load time? My shot-gun
| approach (which I don't really want to do) is to use the Dell Winx XP
| re-install cd and reload the operating system.
|
| 2) Right after the user desktop loads Windows throws up a dialog box about
| not being able to find a file called "LoadGolfCourses". It asks me to
| connect to the internet to find it or asks me to alternately search my
| system programs to find it. I just click cancel to get out of it and
| everything is ok. I've searched through the Registry for anything with
| "golf" in it but no luck. There must be some executable loading that
can't
| find the "LoadGolfCourses" file. I just can't find it.
| Suggestions on where I can look (most probably in the registry) to stop
this
| pop-up of a not found file?
|
| Thanks!
| Walter
