Hi again, Malke. I did scan for viruses (Norton Anti-Virus 2003 Professional) and came up all clear. I also ran the error check feature, and, since I didn't get any report, I assumed my disk is error-free (or relatively so). I did disable non-essential services, but I'm still having the same problem. I have a dial-up connection to a local ISP called Chibardun Telephone Cooperative. Our modem, I'm quite sure, is 56K. This may be significant: Chibardun doesn't yet have its own lines in our area, so we're on something called a "loop." That's all I can think of for now. Thanks again.

Actually, that's just the sort of system information needed. After
you've done the troubleshooting steps from my first post, if you need
more help post back. Be sure to include information about how you
connect to the Internet (method and ISP) and what you've already done
to troubleshoot.
