Games freeze after I've installed Windows XP updates incl SP3

Hi all. Before I installed windows xp updates and sp3 my games worked. (i.e.
Need for Speed Carbon; COD 4 Modern warfare; etc) even a small game like
Motocross Madness 2 does'nt work anymore. What can I do to fix this? Please
help?!!
