Hi Chuck,
Since you're not able to upgrade to SP 2 due to compatibility issues,
try a System Restore or Repair to return your system back to the
state it was in when you were able to run those games. It would
appear that something was updated on your system that is not SP1
compatible and is affecting certain features such as Open GL.
