Re: USB joystick overrides the USB Wheel

I am trying to play an older Grand Prix 3 game by MicroProse, which used to play ok on my old PC with Win98SE.

On my newer PC with XP Home SP2, I am able to install the game ok and can use the joystick to run the game, but I want to play it with the wheel.

The joystick is an MS Sidewinder Precision Pro and the wheel is an MS Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel. They are both currently connected to USB ports.

When I try to set up the game to use the Wheel as the controller, it refuses to acknowledge any movement (even though the wheel and Control Driven Calibration options have been selected). The calibration only seems to recognise the joystick (even with the wheel selected as the controller).

I seem to remember that with Win98, I had to change the control id for the wheel to 1 explicitly, but this option does not seem to be present in XP under the game controllers applet in Control Panel.

Other than having to disconnect the joystick every time I want to play the game (and switch them all about again afterwards so that the kids can play with the joystick) is there a way of getting the game to recognise that the wheel is connected and to calibrate it.

The kids play a GP Championship 2 game (that came free with a KitKat Easter egg) which recognises the wheel with both controllers connected.

Perhaps the Grand Prix 3 game is just too old.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Martin

Have you tried uninstalling both controllers and then reinstalling the wheel first?
